Serenity Acres is a 501-(c)3 non-profit agency that helps to place horses formerly associated with the PMU industry into adoptive homes. We have been through changes since our inception in June 2004. For two years we rescued abused and neglected horses locally and nationally, financed primarily by our own personal funds. We tried several funding programs but were not able to generate enough money to physically bring in horses to our ranch in Silver City. And, we needed to extend our adoption services beyond our small town of 6,000 people and find our horses homes throughout the USA. Our solutiona is to market the horses nationally and provide their transportation.
We continue to do Internet adoptions with the help of United Animal Nations on their Website
www.pmurescue.org.
I recently spent a week in North Dakota at the ranch we work with in Bottineau. This PMU ranch has been closed and we are helping the rancher place his horses. Many of his horses are bred for color and so he has some wild looking ones! As of Fall 2007, we have placed over 400 horses in new homes.
